Sometimes at the start of a session I chant this phrase over and over in my head ~ I have control of the session, I have control of the session, I have control of the session, makes me sound like a little bit of a nut doesn’t it, but it’s true, I have control over how the session is handled. Well, this is the case most of the time. You see, one hour doesn’t seem like a whole lot of time, but when you’re working with kids and want them to look at you and show their happy faces, for one whole hour, well that’s just crazy! But guess what, I have control of the session 😉
I have found that staying flexible with kids, allowing them time to run around, get their silly’s out, and just be crazy rambunctious kids, that’s just as important as capturing that perfect image, and sometimes, when we’re in this camera off mode, it’s when I capture the best moments, because reality is, my camera is never really off.
We play games, I ask the kids if they can find the little birdie inside my lens, I hop around like a frog, it’s actually quite comical, but all the while I know, I’m in control of the session, because I’ve chanted that phrase to myself over and over before the session has even begun.
I absolutely love what I do, and the fact that my clients come back to me time and time again, and the young children remember me, even after many months have passed in between, that tells me that I’m doing something right, and that phrase that I chant to myself, it helps, in more ways then one!
I had such a great time working with this family, and if you look at those beautiful little faces, I think it’s safe to say that they all had a great time as well. And the fact that I was offered hugs and kisses from their youngest by the end of our time together…..yup, mission accomplished!
