Light Lover | Burlington Family Photographer

I am a huge lover of natural light!  It’s all I use in my work ~ no strobe, no modelling lamp, no flash ~ strictly Mother Natures recipe for the day!

I have clients asking me all the time, what’s the best season for light, to head outdoors for their family sessions, and each and every time I’m asked, I’m so completely torn.  My answer always sounds a little like this though “I love all seasons for outdoor photography.”  How can that be right?  Let me explain further…..

There is an incredible difference in the light from one season to another, and it’s totally personal preference.  For example, summer sunset skies produce a variety of pinks, purples, and blues, which are incredibly gorgeous, but some people simply don’t want such coloured art for their walls.  Fall sunsets on the other hand offer up the warmest of hues.  Orange and yellow, hazy, yet sharp, and oh so beautiful!  Winter typically offers an incredible light as well.  The common overcast skies make for some dramatic lighting and therefore show great depth in your images.  And spring, well by the time spring comes around, everything just looks so darn pretty.  The new buds on the trees, the grass looking so very green.  It’s all very inviting!

And so you see, each season has it’s beauty, and we may not like them all for very different reasons.  So, to answer the question of ‘which season is best?’ that one you’ll have to decide for yourself.  What do you want to see displayed on your walls throughout the years?  Which description invites you in more and would help to tell the story of your family?  For when you answer these two very important questions, you shall have a clearer idea of when the best season to head outdoors for your family session will be.  And when that time comes, I hope it’s me that you’ll be calling!!

Tree Farm | Burlington Children Photographer

This is one of my favourite places to capture images for Christmas cards!

The beautiful green tones, and the symmetry of the trees totally catches my eye!!  And when paired with gold tones (as most of my Christmas cards had this year)  and those adorable co-ordinating (no, not matching) outfits, I mean really, the look was just so beautiful!

Simply put, there is just so much I love about this session, and those three precious siblings were like my cherry on top!

Little Red | Burlington Newborn Photographer

Oh my dear, would you look at that beautiful head of hair.  It’s not often that I see babies with red hair, so when this beauty walked through my door, well, it’s about all I could comment on…..can you blame me!?!?!

She’s just as perfect as can be!!

My favourite series from this session is most definitely the macro images.  The close ups of her dimpled knuckles, that gorgeous side profile, those tiny little toes, and her sweetly puckered lips ~ I melted, completely!

And while we’re on the topic ~ marco photography is no joke.  The slightest shift, even an over exaggerated breath, and your entire image is thrown off.  It’s certainly an acquired skill, and one that I’m so thankful that I studied in great detail!

Candid Childhood | Burlington Family Photographer

Capturing candid childhood moments is my passion!!  Let the kids be kids ~ this is my motto when it comes to photographing children and families.

The main reason I follow this motto is simply because one day, when your children are grown up and have left the nest, you will want to remember them as a child ~ how did they behave, what kind of mannerisms did they display, how did they snuggle into your chest.  This, right here, needs to be documented, never to be forgotten.

So, let’s kick the habit of feeling like we all have to be looking at the camera, smiling, and looking happy all the time.  Let’s face it, we aren’t happy all the time, that just wouldn’t be normal.  Instead, lets document your life, as it is today!  Let’s have fun together, let’s discover our surroundings, because this right here, is what will bring out that genuine smile on your child’s face.  And guess what, I bet you’ll smile more naturally as well Mom and Dad 😉

This family right here, they understand the motto, they go with the flow, and in return, they have these lovely heartwarming images of their family enjoying one another.  What more could you ask for really?!?!?!?

Light Inspired | Oakville Family Photographer

So, back in the Fall it was busy, busy, busy here at the studio.  The holidays seemed to be creeping up on us very rapidly, and with loads of sessions on the books, I decided at that time to skip my blog posts and just edit right through my client sessions in a timely manner.  Best decision I could have made at the time!!  Not only did it keep me sane, it also turns out that it’s quite nice to delve back into some Fall images during this winter season.

Well now, it’s mid January, the holidays are over, and the regular flow of business is returning.  This is the perfect time to share some of our Fall sessions!

Not only do I love the gorgeous light of this particular evening session, but somehow, looking through these images again makes me forget that it’s rather chilly outside, and quite ugly to be honest.  I hate winter without snow, it’s just so blah and dreary out there.  Who’s with me on that?

Well, if you agree with me, then I hope these images bring some warmth to you on this overcast, rainy, yucky day 🙂
